In so doing, he explores from a postcolonial vantage point collusions of gender, commerce, and empire—while revealing the tensions, self-deceptions, and conflicts at work within the English imperial design.
Rajan begins with the Portuguese poet Cam�es, whose poem celebrating Vasco da Gama’s passage to India becomes, according to its eighteenth-century English translator, the epic of those who would possess India. He closely examines Milton’s treatment of the Orient and Dryden’s Aureng-Zebe, the first English literary work on an Indian subject. Texts by Shelley, Southey, Mill, and Macaulay, among others, come under careful scrutiny, as does Hegel’s significant impact on English imperial discourse. Comparing the initial English representation of its actions in India (as a matter of commerce, not conquest) and its contemporaneous treatment of Ireland, Rajan exposes contradictions that shed new light on the English construction of a subaltern India.

THIS BOOK IS PERFECT FOR BEGINNER REAL ESTATE INVESTORS

I have read countless books on real estate. For investors who want to learn the basics of Real Estate investing, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. Most authors publish books that have no content, or they write one because of their name so they can receive a residual check. This book has more information for first time investors then any book I've read. Chapter 7 of this book is my Bible for crunching numbers on a property I am going to invest in.

How to Make a Fortune in Real Estate!

The book this week was The ABC's of Real Estate Investing by Ken McElroy. I was introduced to this book by a friend of mine. He has become quite the adviser on the subject of Real Estate Investing, starting his own Investment Group LLC at the early age of 22.

McElroy's book is slow starting, (which is expected with any book that has "The ABC's" in the title) but it really picks up after a few chapters. I know that after reading this book I could make six figures in the business of real estate investing in 5 years or less.

And now that you have your goal, it is time to hit the ground running. You will need to find a team because great things are seldom done alone. You will want a lawyer, accountant, engineer, etc. People that you can turn to and ask questions when they arise during your research. Another great thing about having a team to help you with your real estate dreams is you have people to keep you accountable. If you have ever worked out.. weight-lifting, running, or biking. You know it is so much easier to succeed when you have a partner to help you through.

You will then have to go out and find your ideal real estate. McElroy line-items just about everything you will need to look for when you are researching. This can be a fun time. Once you find the right property for you, this book will tell you how to find the "right" asking price. In the book there are detailed guides to writing your letter of intent to your buyer and how to go through the final process of acquiring your property.

After you have your property you will need to decide if you are going to be a the property manager- the person that handles the landlord duties- or are you going to outsource that job to property management company. I recommend outsourcing for any property over 8 units. Let someone else handle the rent checks, leaks, broken appliances, flooding, evictions, background checks, criminal checks and the list goes on. Outsourcing this job will allow you to work on researching other properties or continuing career goals. Property management companies will charge between 8% and 14% depending on the number of units and the company. However, remember that like all things, you get what you pay for.

As you venture into this new world of Real Estate Investing you may start small with a duplex or a small apartment complex. If you follow the guidelines laid out in this book you will have a steady cash flow to reinvest in new larger properties. The goal that I previously outlined in this review is not far-fetched. If you are motivated, put the excuses aside, believe in yourself, and really go for it you can reach this goal. In the current economy you have a goldmine of opportunity. Go do some research and put yourself out there. Interest rates are low and everybody is selling. Its a buyer's market, so take advantage!

I think this book is good for anyone that has ever thought about investing in property to supplement their income, but never really knew what steps to take. If you have any questions on the book don't hesitate to ask me a question. I would be more than happy to help anyone that needs it.

Great conversation starter, that's not all

This book is great as a read on it's own or a conversation starter with friends. Want to know how to make a carrot pipe? What about making cannabutter? Not sure what kush is? This book will get you started on the never ending cannabis culture.

The one downside to a book like this is it's lifespan. While i'm sure a lot of the information will be relevant for a long time to come some of it wont. With the development of new strains, smoking techniques, and slang the only way to be up on the jargon is to be a stoner yourself.

Honestly $14 for this book is a steal. So if you want to be educated on the stoner species or you just want something to stare at while your high this book should be in your collection.

Pot Culture - Affirms Maturation of Cannabis Law Reform Movement

Shirley Halperin and Steve Bloom have authored the definitively written and graphically-presented book in honor of pot culture. While most citizens, whether they relate personally to cannabis or not, can recognize North America's ironic cultural embrace for a substance banned by American and Canadian governments for 70 years, authors Halperin and Bloom's expertise and rich knowledge of cannabis' intersection with music, movies and television help readily guide even novice devotees of cannabis down a path of cultural and historical enlightenment.

The book is beautifully published and provides for a comprehensive tour of cannabis, entertainment, culture and the abject failure of cannabis prohibition in modern North America.

So much of a variety!

This book covers so much about pot culture. It is great to have around and just look through and read about anything you need to know about the culture. I love this book. I bought two copies when it first came out...one for me and one for my best friend. I've just ordered two more copies for two of my other friends. I consider it a must-have coffee table book for people into this type of stuff. There is such a great variety of information, from definitions to pages dedicated to great musicians, artists, and entertainers, to how-to guides.
