Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis have become increasingly important non-mammalian laboratory animal models in embryology, toxicology, cellular biology, physiology, biochemistry, and biomedical research studies. This book on Xenopus sp represents one of the latest volumes in the Laboratory Animal Pocket Reference Series. Like other titles in this series, this book contains chapters covering the important biological features, husbandry, management, veterinary care, and common experimental methods relating to Xenopus sp. in research laboratories. In addition, the last chapter provides additional information resources that supplement the necessarily brief summaries provided in a pocket reference. This book succeeds admirably in providing a convenient and comprehensive source of information addressing the unique characteristics and needs of Xenopus sp in laboratory settings. Its intended audience is research scientists, technicians, animal caretakers, and laboratory animal veterinarians, but the handbook would also serve as an excellent reference for pet owners. The first chapter, rich in illustrations, contains interesting and useful information regarding the origin, behavior, anatomy, and physiology of Xenopus.
